The Meridian chapter of The Salvation Army is now under new leadership.
A luncheon was held Thursday for the new commanders, Majors Walter and Vicki Strong, who hail most recently from Florida.
The Strongs will be responsible for programs in four counties.
"It's beginning the summer season for us, so things kind of slow down for us a little bit," said Maj. Walter Strong. "But we do have a shelter in town that operates 365 days a year. We have a thrift store that we operate. Pretty much in the summer, things slow down, and it will pick back up in the fall."
The Strongs replace Majors Steve and Mary Welch, who recently moved to Selma, Ala.
