Three Lauderdale County schools closed early Thursday due to water problems. West Lauderdale Elementary, West Lauderdale Middle and West Lauderdale High School dismissed at 11:30 a.m.
"We're already having to make up a weather day, so the administration, myself, we all feel like if at all possible let's try to be able to count the day," said superintendent Randy Hodges. "And by going to 11:30 we were able to do that. You've got to think about the safety. You've got to think about what's best for the kids, but at the same time we didn't want to miss a day. And we were very hopeful that it would be fixed early morning."
The schools have been without water since Wednesday afternoon. Water for all three schools is provided by the North Lauderdale Water Association.
Only the three West Lauderdale schools were affected by this problem.
North Lauderdale Water Association customers who were affected are now under a Boil Water Notice as a precaution.
It applies to all customers west of the Highway 495 and Centerhill-Martin Road intersection to West Lauderdale Road. That includes Pine Springs Road.
