The cash register may be closing on another Black Friday, but it's popping right back open for small business Saturday.
Experts say small business is the state's driving force. Small businesses make up 96 percent of all business in Mississippi, employing more than half of the state's workforce. Officials say spending $100 at a local business ensures about $73 of that money staying in the community. It's only about $43 at larger chain stores.
"You're investing thirty more dollars of that $100 in Mississippi, right here in your own community every time when you go into an independent home owned store and buying local," according to Ron Aldridge, Mississippi director for the National Federation of Independent Business. "That's a huge difference in your community."
Aldridge also says shopping at a small business provides a little more personalized service and better deals.
