The political arm of the Mississippi Medical Association has endorsed incumbent state Rep. Greg Snowden for re-election.
The Mississippi Medical Political Action Committee assesses candidates based on how it thinks they'll benefit health care and Mississippi patients.
Local members says Snowden is and has been representing the interests of patients during his time in the legislature.
"The doctors of Mississippi serve the patients of Mississippi. Everybody out there is a patient. So you want somebody who's dedicated to, you know, improving the health of our state," said Dr. Scott Anderson, oncologist.
"I've known Greg Snowden all of my life, and in fact, we're church members. And he has done a great job for Meridian and for the state as well," said Dr. Sonny Rush, orthopedic surgeon. "And we're very proud to endorse him."
"This endorsement today means a lot to me. It's very humbling," said Snowden. "And I'm also proud to say the Mississippi nurses have supported me, the health care workers all across the spectrum, the social workers, the Mississippi Primary Health Care folks, all of the, independent pharmacists. I fell like I've gotten broad support from folks that have been to the Capitol and seen the work I've done, and as Dr. Anderson said, stood up for the patients and that's really what it's all about."
Snowden is seeking his fourth term representing House District 83. He's opposed by Democrat Gary Houston and independent Sam Thompson in the Nov. 8 election.
