The Jimmie Rodgers festivities continued Wednesday with songwriters night at the Temple Theater.
The event spotlighted the Heart Behind the Music featuring Mac McAnally, Teddy Gentry, and Lenny LeBlanc.
Newscenter 11 caught up with the trio Wednesday afternoon as they were preparing to rehearse for Wednesday night's show. They tell us, like everything, songwriting is a skill you develop through watching others do it.
"Very few people are born with the gift of saying, I can sit down and write a hit song any time I want to," Gentry says. "I'm sure God gives that gift to some people, but to me, I know most of the writers would tell you it comes from years of doing it and trying to get a little better at it every year."
The Jimmie Rodgers Festival continues Thursday night with Traditional Country Night at Dumont Plaza, starting at 6 p.m., featuring Daryle Singletary, Southern Justice, and Steve Wilkerson.
