Southern Pine Stresses Efficiency

A local power company wants to save energy by informing the public about power saving tips.

Southern Pine Electric Power Association began its annual energy fair Wednesday. It gave away energy efficiency supplies to its members and the public.

"It's important during these summer months, you know, inevitably when it hits 90, when it hits 100 degrees, you start seeing power bills go up," said Leif Munkel, communications coordinator. "And anything that you can do in your house whether its changing some lifestyle decisions that you do setting your thermostat at 78 or even higher, all of those things can help save you money on your power bill."

The energy efficiency supplies being given away are window insulator kits and CFL bulbs.

Other energy fairs are planned:

June 8, Brandon, 3215 Louis Wilson Drive
June 12, Hattiesburg, 7848 U.S. 49 North
June 14, New Hebron, 2504 Ferguson Mill Road
June 22, Taylorsville, 110 Risher St.

Each fair will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Admission is free.
