We are entering the third full weekend of State Games events in Meridian and across the state, tomorrow several local venues will host events, all of which should bring in plenty of out-of-towers to the Queen City.

"This weekend we've got track and field at Meridian, we've got softball going on at Northeast Park, and we've got youth tennis at Northwood [Country Club]," says State Games Official Carolyn Smith.

Smith says participation has been strong during the first few weeks of games.

"Most everything we've done already has been up."

State Games officials say that the opening ceremonies one week from Friday will close out at the Doughboy Monument in downtown Meridian.

"We're really excited about that," says Smith, "we're working on that very hard and we have a few surprises coming this year."

There is still time to get involved in this year's State Games of Mississippi, either as a volunteer or as a participant.

You can stop by State Games headquarters off of College Drive in Meridian, or log onto stategamesofms.org.
