Local police and officers from across the state are in Meridian this week for some training that could pay off in the field.
Local law enforcement is hosting the two day event at the MCC Workforce Development Center, and the focus of the event is helping officers deal with the court room setting.
"You've got to stay abreast on the most recent court cases," says Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie, "I've told people that it's easy to catch the bad guy, but to return to the court room two years later, that's when the fun really [begins]."
The Sheriff's Department is co-hosting the event with Meridian Police, and Sheriff Sollie says many smaller agencies don't have the budget to send officers away for training, so these regional events are very important.
A half day of training kicked off Tuesday, with a full day of instruction on search and seizure law set for Wednesday in Meridian.
