On this Valentine's Day, matters of the heart were on the minds of some local students.
Students at Clarkdale took part in a fundraiser for the American Heart Association and students also dressed in red Thursday to show their support.
The fundraiser was held in honor of former principal Ken Herrington, who recently passed away because of heart disease.
"We're such a close knit community and so, they may not have known Mr. Herrington but probably a lot of their parents who went to school here would have had him as their principal or would have had Mrs. Herrington as their teacher," said English teacher, Julie Rawson. "And just to bring awareness to how important it is especially in Mississippi to grow up with a healthy heart."
Rawson says the special event was also to honor Mrs. Joanne Herrington, who was an English teacher at Clarkdale for over 30 years.
