The United Way of East Mississippi sponsored its 2nd Annual Stuff the Bus campaign Thursday at Dumont Plaza.
People had the chance to bring school supplies and uniforms, as well as sports equipment, to donate for children whose families are not able to provide those things on their own.
"It's important just because if you can imagine as an adult, trying to go to work every day and do your job, and not having the tools you need to do good. That's what these kids are facing," said Sara Carmichael of United Way. "Some of them show up for the first day of school, already nervous, and they don't have the pencils they need, or they don't have the clothes they need. "
The donations made at Stuff the Bus will be distributed through Meridian and Lauderdale County elementary schools.
