Supervisors Proceed with Bond Issue

Lauderdale County, Miss. Lauderdale County supervisors are moving forward with a $14 million bond issue.

The money will go for several county and city recreation projects and to repair the county courthouse.

Monday's 3-2 vote came after a petition by citizens to force it to a public vote failed to get enough valid signatures.

Supervisors Joe Norwood, Josh Todd and Hank Florey voted for the measure, while Kyle Rutledge and Wayman Newell voted against it.

The bond issue could still face another challenge. Local realtor James Harwell presented a letter of intent to appeal it at the supervisors board meeting. The group he represents has ten days to do just that in court.
