Authorities in Kemper County have charged a man with rape and kidnapping.
Daniel R. Zales was charged Thursday for an incident that allegedly happened Wednesday.
Officials said that Zales even tried to force the female victim to get a marriage license with him.
But the woman was able to get away and run to the police department across the street from the courthouse.
"There has been a lot of unanswered questions that we had to run down to insure that these charges were going to be filed, that they are good and they stick," said Kemper County Sheriff James Moore. "And I can tell you right now this has been a very complex case."
Moore said Zales had been working at the lignite plant. No bond had been set as of Thursday night.
