Swanner Captured, Back in Custody

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department says it received a tip that led to the capture and arrest of Lynn Jerome Swanner in Oceans Springs on Saturday.

Swanner was on the run from authorities after they attempted to serve him a warrant on grand larceny charges in late August.

Newscenter 11 was at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on Wednesday as officials escorted Swanner to jail after being returned from the coast. We asked Swanner to comment on the charges he is facing.

"I'm not guilty," he said. "The only thing I'm guilty of is being with somebody when they lied."

Newscenter 11 asked Swanner why he ran from authorities, but he did not respond to our question. Major Casey McElhenney says it was to avoid further jail time.

"What he relayed to us was that he has an extensive criminal history," McElhenney explains. "And he knew he would be ineligible for bond and did not want to come back to jail because of that reason."

Swanner is also accused of stealing a trailer in early August and then crashing it as he ran from investigators. Authorities say they later arrested Swanner on that charge and he bonded out before going on the run again.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department says Swanner is facing two grand larceny charges, as well as possession of narcotics and paraphernalia, a concealed weapon charge, and also resisting arrest and felony eluding.
