The Sound of Music is coming to the Temple Theatre in Meridian, Sunday, Apr. 10 at 2 p.m.
The musical first appeared on Broadway in 1959, but was made famous by the 1965 movie.
It's the story of the von Trapp family of Austria, who managed to escape after Hitler's takeover of their homeland.
Fifty-five professional actors, singers and musicians are involved in the production.
"It's a perfect family outing. Great music. Great story, somewhat loosely based on fact," said Dennis Assaf of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society. "The history is not quite accurate, but essentially the von Trapp family did perform and eventually escaped the Nazis and came to America."
The music will be familiar to a wide audience: "The Sound of Music" title song, "My Favorite Things" and "Climb Every Mountain".
Ticket prices are $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for children under 12. Contact the Temple Theatre at 601-693-5353.
