Sam Thompson was campaigning in Clarke County to start off his weekend as he spoke to patrons at the Clarke County Forestry and Wildlife Festival.
Throughout his campaign Thompson has stressed the role that faith would play in his term should he win the House 83 seat.
"We are living in a world in which it's still important for our children to know that we can call on the name of God," said Thompson, an area pastor, "and in many cases we really have situations where people are getting away from that."
The East Mississippi Baptist State Convention has endorsed Thompson along with several other state religious organizations as he looks to unseat three term incumbent Greg Snowden.
"It is time for a change, and some people kind of think it's about the party but it's really about the man, you have to have a man who is concerned about the people," said Thompson.
Thompson announced his candidacy back in April.
