Lauderdale County, Miss. Three people have been charged after a high speed chase down a local highway on Wednesday night.
The chase ended in the parking lot of the Cecfo station on North Hills Street about 11:30 where investigators were met with two pick up trucks and two people inside each truck. Sheriff Billy Sollie tells Newscenter 11 it all started with a reported strong armed robbery and a hit-and-run in the Daleville community, which later led to that chase.
"Two of them filed reports with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department indicating that they had been robbed by the occupants of the other vehicle," Sollie explains. "Subsequently, an investigation revealed that was a false report and they were charged with filing a false report."
Sollie says Bruce Thomas Fondren and Robert Skyler Conwill are the two charged with filing that false police report. The sheriff tells Newscenter 11 that Larry Alan Justice was charged with DUI after the chase ended. In the end, Sollie says the dispute actually started over whether a certain form of illegal activity took place.
"One of the parties was trying to sell some false drugs to the other party and they became angry at each other," Sollie says.
Given the fact that both vehicles were traveling down Highway 39 at high rates of speed and knocking down signs, other could have potentially been harmed.
"Caused the Highway Patrol, Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, and Meridian Police Department to be concerned," Sheriff Sollie admits.
Justice and Conwell have bonded out of the Lauderdale County Detention Facility. Fondren remains behind bars and is not eligible for bond because of a previous probation violation.
