It's traditional country night at the Jimmie Rodgers Festival.

Work got underway early Thursday at Dumont Plaza as several acts were set to take the stage, including Daryle Singletary, Southern Justice, and Steve Wilkerson.

Wilkerson is from this area, and grew up attending the Jimmie Rodgers Festival. He's getting a chance to play at the festival for this first time.

"Jimmie Rodgers means so much not to just country music but American music," says Wilkerson, "and to perform in something that will increase his legacy, it's all I can ask for."

Thursday night's show was set to start at 6 PM.

There are lots of other events going on over the next several days.

An American music symposium at the Riley Center is set for Friday afternoon, followed by Juke Joint Night as downtown clubs host special music.

On Saturday, the talent competition and Jimmie's Jam will be happening all day in Dumont Plaza, and Wynonna will perform Saturday night.
