Meridian Regional Airport was packed this afternoon as friends and family anxiously awaited the return of some troops from a year long tour in the Middle East. The Delta Company 1st and 111th didn't stay in one spot too long. Private First Class Cody Griffin, who returned home today, says they moved around quite a bit.
"We deployed first to Iraq, and then moved to Kuwait, and then on to Afghanistan."
After a year in hostile territory, Griffin has never been happier to be home, and is glad to be back with loved ones.
"It's amazing. It's a big relief."
The returning soldiers aren't the only ones glad to be home. Parents, spouses, and children were elated to see their loved one step off the plane and into the terminal. They were met with welcome home signs and American flags. One of Griffin's family friends, Tanya Storey, says that her prayers were answered this afternoon.
"When Cody left, all you can do is pray that God will return him home safely, and he answered our prayers today."
This will definitely be a day that none of them will soon forget.
