The Meridian School Board has a new member. The Meridian City Council has approved the appointment of Michael Van Veckhoven.
Van Veckhoven has been an avid supporter of public schools, particularly Meridian schools.
He's also a board member for the Meridian and Lauderdale County chapter of Parents for Public Schools.
The 36-year-old is a Meridian High School graduate.
Van Veckhoven was named the school system's Parent of the Year for 2011-2012.
