Mississippi's Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton was filled with veterans, family and friends on Memorial Day.
Veterans from all around came for the solemn and patriotic ceremony.
Director Timothy Lockey says the intention is to not only honor those who gave their lives, but to pay tribute to those still living as well.
"It gives them an opportunity to reflect on what they've been through in their lives," said Lockey. "And I hate to say it, but brings back memories from when they were side-by-side with their comrades in battle and some returned and some didn't."
The Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery opened two years ago. It was made made possible by a grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs to the state of Mississippi.
