Visitors Take Advantage of Free Admission

The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation celebrated his birthday Thursday by offering free admission to the Jimmie Rodgers Museum.

The foundation uses the museum at highland park to perpetuate the memory of the father of country music....and recognize his contributions to American music.

"I just like to come and see the memories, because I remember as a little girl going to the Jimmie Rodgers festivals that they had in Meridian," said Inez Duett, a Rodgers' fan. "They'd always have parades and we would go to that. They would have the country singers that used to come, like Hank Snow and Hank Williams, and Jim Reeves. Just a whole bunch of, you know, the country singers that I remember coming to see them."

Rodgers was born Sept. 8, 1897.

The International Singing Brakeman Association will also salute Jimmie Rodgers this Saturday. The event is from 10 a.m. until at the Best Western in Meridian.
