Jackson, Miss. Mississippi Republican Sen. Roger Wicker has been named a conferee to a budget conference between the House and Senate.
The legislation to reopen the government, passed by Congress on Wednesday, requires that a budget conference be convened to address the nation's $17 trillion debt.
Wicker is a member for the Senate Budget Committee.
Wicker says in a statement that he hopes the budget conferees will come up with something that slows the growth rate in the automatic spending programs and reduces federal debt without raising taxes on hard-working families.
The conference committee will be responsible for returning a spending plan to both chambers of Congress by Dec. 13.
