MIAMI (AP) -- Tropical Storm Guillermo has strengthened in the Pacific far from land while a tropical depression in the Atlantic has weakened.

Guillermo's maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph and the storm is moving west-northwest near 16 mph. It's centered about 805 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.

In the Atlantic, a tropical depression's maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 30 mph. But forecasters say the depression could still become a tropical storm in a few days.

The depression is centered about 840 miles west of Cape Verde Islands and moving west near 12 mph.
