Mississippi's newest U.S. senator was in Philadelphia Friday, talking to officials there and stumping for votes.
Roger Wicker made a stop at Williams Brothers Store. While there, he talked about some of the major projects he hopes to influence in Washington.
Among those is the four-laning of Highway 19 from Collinsville to Philadelphia, which local officials say really needs to be done.
"It will get us closer to Meridian and make everything more accessible, make it safer for our citizens, and give us more economic opportunities to grow," said David Vowell, president of the Community Development Partnership.
"We collect federal gasoline taxes and we ought to return every penny of that to the states so folks can have better transportation," said Wicker.
Wicker is running in a special election to permanently fill the seat later this year.
Former governor, Ronnie Musgrove, and former congressman, Ronnie
Shows, have both indicated they will also run.
