Jackson, Miss. A Mississippi state senator is now alert in a Jackson hospital, almost two weeks after he fell and hit his head on concrete.
Sen. Videt Carmichael has been in the critical care unit at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He suffered the fall Mar. 31.
His son, Fredie Carmichael, says the senator has been awake since early Friday and a ventilator was successfully removed.
Carmichael has represented District 33 since 2000.
