Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says absentee ballots should be available in all 82 counties sometime next week.
After a Supreme Court ruling about placement of a special election U.S. Senate race Thursday, Hosemann's office distributed a new sample ballot Friday with the race near the top. He also spoke with local election officials responsible for publishing ballots.
Lott retired last December to become a lobbyist. Republican Roger Wicker and Democrat Ronnie Musgrove are competing to fill the final four years of Lott's term.
The election is Nov. 4. Absentee voting was supposed to start Monday.
