Voter Attire Restricted on Election Day

According to Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, state law prohibits voters and poll workers from wearing any campaign paraphernalia, including T-shirts, buttons, stickers, etc., with a candidate’s name or picture on it within 150 feet of any entrance to a building where an election
is being conducted.

To do so constitutes the posting of campaign literature and is not allowed.

If, for example, a candidate's supporter is wearing a campaign T-Shirt, button or sticker of support, it must be covered or removed before a voter comes
within 150 feet of any entrance to a building where an election
is being conducted.

Mississippi does not currently require that ID be shown at the polls, except for first-time voters who did not register in person at a circuit clerk's office.

Acceptable forms of identification are:
1. A current and valid photo identification (e.g., driver’s license);
2. A current utility bill with voter’s name and address;
3. A current bank statement with voter’s name and address;
4. A current government check with voter’s name and address;
5. A current paycheck with voter’s name and address; or
6. Any other government document that shows voter’s name and address.
If the voter does not have a form of identification, the voter may cast an affidavit ballot.

Alabama Secretary of State Beth Chapman says voters can wear a campaign T-shirt or campaign button, but they can't do any politicking while they are inside a polling place.

Chapman said poll workers can't wear any type of campaign attire.

Chapman also said her office is getting phone calls about whether voters must show a driver's license to vote. While the state of Alabama requires ID,
22 different kinds of it are allowed. The 22 options include a paycheck, utility bill or bank statement with a voter's name and address.
