Musgrove Campaigns in Meridian

Democratic senatorial candidate Ronnie Musgrove brought his campaign to Meridian Thursday afternoon.

Musgrove held a news conference with local Democrats at the Lauderdale County Courthouse.

The former Mississippi governor is touring the state this week, leading up to the Nov. 4 special election to fill the unexpired term of Trent Lott who resigned in 2007.

He faces Republican Roger Wicker, who was appointed by the governor to serve in the Senate until the special election is held.

"People know that Washington is broken. Washington isn't working. And the economy has got people nervous," said Musgrove. "The failed policies in Washington are shipping our jobs overseas, and we need a U.S. Senator who's going to stand up for the people of Mississippi. "

Recent polls have shown Musgrove behind by several points in the final week of the campaign.
