Democrat Ronnie Musgrove Wednesday conceded to Republican Roger Wicker in a special election for Mississippi Senate. He declined to do so Tuesday night despite trailing by a significant margin.
Musgrove told reporters at a news conference in Jackson that he talked to Wicker Wednesday morning.
Wicker defeated Musgrove in a special election Tuesday and will serve the final four years of a six-year term started by Trent Lott, who retired in December 2007.
Gov. Haley Barbour appointed Wicker to serve temporarily until the special election was held.
Musgrove is a former governor who lost his re-election bid to Barbour five years ago.
