Governors Comment on Inauguration

Statement from Governor Riley on the Inauguration of President Obama
“I want to thank President Bush for his service to our nation these past eight years. Our nation is more secure because of his unwavering leadership. Equally important for Mississippi, President Bush worked hard to help our state recover from the worst natural disaster in American history<' said Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. “Now, as President Obama has assumed our nation’s highest office, I wish him great success for our country. His inauguration was uplifting and inspirational. I look forward to having a positive, productive relationship with him and his team.”

“Today marks an historic moment for our country," said Alabama Gov. Bob Riley. "The peaceful transition of the most powerful office on Earth is truly exceptional, and something that all of us, regardless of political party, can celebrate as Americans. I congratulate President Obama on his historic election and inauguration and I look forward to working with him. I also want to congratulate President Bush on eight years of faithful service, and thank him for keeping America safe amid some of the most turbulent times this nation has ever known.”
