Norwood Holds Downtown Rally

Lauderdale County supervisor Joe Norwood announced his intentions to run for mayor of Meridian at a rally at Dumont Plaza downtown.

The District 4 supervisor is running as a Democrat . He said he has a proven record.

"Where we are is, we have established ourselves as a retail hub and a medical center. We have in place the infrastructure to get people jobs and develop our economic development in this community. So now we have to reach out to those outside areas that have development going on, like the lignite plant up in Kemper County," said Norwood. "We've got to make sure we develop infrastructure in and around in that area to bring people into this community. So we have a lot of things on the plate."

There are three other Democrats in the race for mayor, Percy Bland, William Bond Compton, Jr., and Casandra Sloan. Cheri Barry is running as a Republican.
