U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker says he's pleased the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has gotten a closer look at the escalating drug-related violence along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Wicker, a Republican from Mississippi, joined other committee members at a field hearing in El Paso, Texas, where the group heard from officials from both countries about the violence and discussed ways to help end it.
Wicker said the drug war is a serious situation that "America cannot ignore." He says the violence across the border from El Paso is alarming in terms of its frequency as well as its proximity to the U.S.
