The jury pool in the retrial of Jackson Mayor Frank Melton will be picked from 45 south Mississippi counties.
Tuesday's decision by U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan, III, was a reversal of an earlier decision to call the jurors from only the six southernmost counties in the state.
Federal prosecutors wanted the jury picked from the southern counties because media coverage of the case has been less intense there.
But Jordan said the entire 45-county area has not been tainted by the media coverage.
Melton and his former police bodyguard are accused of orchestrating the August 2006 sledgehammer destruction of a duplex Melton considered a crack house. The last trial ended in a hung jury in February.
