Meridian's Ward 5 city councilman, John Harris, has been fired from his new job as head of campus security at Mississippi University for Women.
Officials with MUW confirmed to Newscenter 11 Friday afternoon that Harris was terminated from the job he began in April.
Harris was running for re-election for the Ward 5 seat, despite a PEER Committee opinion that said he must live in Columbus with his new job.
Thursday night at a candidates' forum in Meridian, Harris refused to comment on how or if he planned to do both jobs.
In a news release late Friday, Harris said he had planned to resign from MUW but did not want to flood the media with this news while the community was mourning the death of Charles Young.
