Gov. Haley Barbour has ordered state flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, in honor of state Rep. Charles Young.
Young died Apr. 29, after suffering a heart attack following a prolonged illness. However, Young had continued to work through his failing health.
The governor's order applies to state flags on all buildings and grounds of the State of Mississippi and all areas under its jurisdiction, beginning at sunrise and ending at sunset Wednesday.
According to a news release from the governor's office, the honor is "in remembrance of a dedicated Mississippi public servant, State Representative Charles Young of Meridian".
Young's funeral begins Wednesday at 10 a.m. at his church, Newell Chapel CME Church in Meridian.
