The newest member of the Mississippi House of representatives was sworn in Friday, and immediately went to work in a special session.
Wilbert Jones of Meridian took the oath of office Friday as House District 82 state representative. He was surrounded by his family, members of the local delegation and the family of the late Charles Young, Sr., whose seat he won in a special election.
The oldest son of Rep. Young called this a 'good day' because Rep. Jones will carry on his father's legacy.
"Mr. Jones has been a friend of our family for a long time," said Charles Young, Jr. "Mr. Jones is one of my father's children and he knows my dad as well as we know my dad."
In regards to being the new representative for District 82, Jones said he will make one promise to constituents, and that is, to work hard.
"It feels like I need to get to work, and honestly, I want to get to work," said Jones. "Next week I'll be over here again. That's on my agenda to be prepared."
Capitol officials told us that this was one of, or perhaps, the largest turnout for a swearing-in ceremony. Jones immediately started work with the called special session.
