Cong. Harper's visit to Southeast High School Wednesday is part of a statewide effort called, "Legislators in Schools."
Officials say that using alternative methods of teaching is working at SEHS..
New test results show that, for the third year in a row, Southeast High School's scores on the U.S. history portion of the state test are the highest in the Lauderdale County School District.
"They're very visual. They don't just like to read out of the book," said history teacher Kristi Lanterman. "They want to be able to see what we're talking about and put a face to it. So, that does work."
This year, Southeast High School had five students who made perfect scores of 500 on the history portion of the state test.
