Barbour Wants State ACORN Funding Cut Off

Gov. Haley Barbour has issued an executive order ending any state funding given to the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now, known as ACORN.

Barbour's order was delivered to the secretary of state's office Monday. Barbour said in a news release he wants the state fiscal officer to conduct a review of the state's relationship with ACORN and cut off any funding of current contracts.

The release didn't say how much state money goes to ACORN or for what programs.

ACORN has come under fire for a hidden camera video involving a couple posing as a prostitute and her pimp. On the video, two ACORN workers apparently advise the couple to lie about her profession and launder her earnings to get housing aid.

The U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate has voted overwhelmingly to eliminate funding for ACORN.

Danny, I'm not a smoker-My point was just as yours...God is trying to tell us something in the natural disasters taking place. Instead of criticizing our government leaders, we need to pray for them. Mr. Obama and our local leaders need our prayers, not our criticisms. And I agree with you wholeheartedly, prayer needs to be returned to every facet of our lives.

No question about it, OBAMA would not be president today had it not been for ACORN and all their illegal activities. They had people voting and double voting that could not even write their names- AND OBAMA TRAINED THEM! With the recent news about ACORN, looks like he gave them a lot of training in other fields besides voting. Now when he gets pushed he will throw them under the bus also. After all they have served their purpose for him. STOP THE TAXPAYER FUNDING NOW.

Thank goodness our Governor had the guts to cut ACORN funding...another waste of the working class tax dollars. The working class of the world are sick and tired of govt abuse and waste of our money. As far as the racial allegations, even sicker of that!! Our President, who is bi-racial, should do more to tamp down the racial undertones in the country, instead he doesn't say enough. Our President is failing the working class daily by constantly pushing programs for minorities that don't work and don't pay taxes. It will come back to haunt him in the next election.

4 Real, what the heck are you smoking? Our FREEDOM is our key. If you lived in another country and critized a person in power you would be killed! What does Califonia burning, Georgia flooding, Michigan freezing and New Jersey earthquacking have to do with ACORN using OUR tax money to do "claimed" illegal activity? Not a darn thing! Many people have fought and died for our freedom of speech. Having this freedom has not put our great county in disarray, having people in government making decisions that are against our constitution is why our county is in what you call disarray. People are tired of being taxed to death for more and more handouts. But the main reason that this country is in disarray is because we have turned away from God! We have taken him out of our schools, our government, and we wonder why things are as bad as they are!

Only in America can we criticize a sitting government official and get away with it. In other countries, many of US would be placed before a firing squad and blown to smithereens. This is why America is in so much disarray. Too much freedom is bound to lead to destruction. Look around folks-California is burning, Georgia is flooding, Michigan is freezing, New Jersey is earthquaking, and Mississippi is still complaining about everything.

gov: Barbour does NOT equal KKK. Their tactics are nowhere being used in his administration. MACK: ACORN is just an illicit organization using federal funds, backed by NAACP. Why is everything done in fairness have to be painted as racial? BTW, when did the people decide that OBAMA is the first BLACK president? His mother is white & his grandparents who raised him are white. He chose to relate to the black neighborhood. He chose a black wife. He chose to help the black "minorities" (which aren't minorities anymore). But he chose to forget his white heritage. What a shame. He would have been the ideal president to bridge the racial gap, but he's choosing to widen it & choosing to back these illicit programs until they get caught, then he distances himself away from them. How sneaky is that. He is such a sad, lame president. He's just pushing his agenda, not taking care of pressing matters that are important to Americans & the country.

Why do you need ACORN to get people registered to vote? I guess I am missing something I registered all by myself at the court house. One thing people have got to learn is the government does not have any money of their own. It is OUR money they are spending and giving to these special interest groups. It is time for all our elected officials to become accountable for the way they spend OUR money.

Really sad that no matter what a person or organization does, some people are always going to make racial accusations! ACORN is a crooked organization (that has now been proven by the undercover reports), but I didn't realize it was JUST for black people anyway (thought it was for underprivileged and poor people of all races- but what do I know?)... Redline citizen and gov really need to find something else to complain about. There has to be accountability for public funds- I don't want my tax dollars going to people who LIE about their needs- see it all the time (people on Medicaid walk into hospitals talking on cell phones, driving expensive cars, airbrushed fingernails, etc. If you have money for frivolous things, you aren't in need of basic neccessities!) Question for Redline- why does anyone need "HELP" getting registered to vote? Last time I checked, the courthouse is open to the public- all people have to do is go pick up the form and fill it out....

What evidence is there that the Mississippi operations are run like the New York or New Jersey operations?
