A major endorsement came Thursday for Mississippi Sen. Charlie Ross in his bid for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
Mississippi Right to Life has endorsed Ross for the job, citing his years of work in the state Senate and his record on the abortion issue.
Ross and Right to Life chair, Barbara Whitehead, made the announcement in Meridian. The campaign also made stops elsewhere around the state.
The organization picked Ross over state auditor Phil Bryant, who is also pro-life.
Ross and Bryant will face off in the Republican primary Aug. 6. The democratic candidate is Jamie Franks.
