A case against a candidate for sheriff in Kemper County was originally set to come up Wednesday in DeKalb. However, the case was delayed.
Last month Cornelius Parks was charged with aggravated assault for an alleged altercation at his house involving his brother.
Parks said the judge postponed the case due to a crowded docket and also
because there was a memorial service set for a Kemper County deputy who died on the job Sunday.
"Well, I really wish we could've gotten it over soon. The primaries are coming up," said Parks. "It's very important to get this case dismissed due to the fact that I am innocent. It was politically influenced, but if we can get it done next week it will be great."
Although a date has not yet been set, Parks said the court date will likely be rescheduled for next week.
