Gary Anderson has received the endorsement of Democracy for America, a political action committee founded by Howard Dean in 2004. According to a news release, it's dedicated to supporting progressive candidates at all levels of government.
DFA describes Anderson as the progressive candidate for Mississippi Insurance Commissioner.
Almost two years after Katrina, many residents are still waiting for insurance payments to begin rebuilding their lives. Mississippi needs a commissioner like Gary Anderson to stand up for the rights of the people," said chairman Jim Dean. "Democracy for America endorses Gary Anderson with great pride and enthusiasm because he shares our belief in people-powered politics and will move the community forward."
Anderson has worked under the administrations of five Mississippi governors. He ran for state treasurer in 2003.
Anderson meets Democratic incumbent George Dale in the Aug. 7 primary.
Mike Chaney and Ronnie D. English are vying for the Republican nomination.
The general elections is Nov. 6.
