Incumbent Craig Hitt and challenger, Jerry Shields, both Republicans, are vying for the position of supervisor of District 3 in Lauderdale County.
Hitt has held the position for the last two terms and says the county has made great progress. He points to the retail development next to the new Super Wal-Mart and other industrial jobs brought to the county.
"This is what we want to see happen in Lauderdale County and this is what we see happening," said Hitt. "But we realize there's a lot more work to be done. And the job's not through yet. And that's why I want to be a supervisor for the next four years in District 3."
Republican Jerry Shields is retired from the Air National Guard, and says he's been studying Lauderdale County for the last few years.
"I feel like that we do waste money. I feel like we buy more equipment than we should buy. I feel like we've got contracting problems. We've got personnel problems," said Shields. "We need to look at how the county is spending its money. because we have a lot of things to do and we do not need to raise taxes. So we've got to tighten our belt."
The winner of this election will face Democrat Wally Hudnall in the general election.
