Lauderdale County administrator Mike Sumrall says he has decided to resign from his position, because of pressing family and personal medical issues.
He said Friday that he was serious when he offered to resign back in January, but he stayed at the request of a couple of the supervisors.
But Sumrall says he recently realized it was time for him to leave and he wanted to make sure he stepped down in time for the board to hire a new administrator to help with the approaching budget process.
"I became a little bit of a distraction in that two of them were against me and three were for," said Sumrall. "And that wasn't working well in some of the meetings. "
Sumrall plans to submit his official letter of resignation Monday.
