A runoff election is set for Aug. 28 in the District 84 Republican House of Representatives race.
C.D. Smith and David "Tad" Campbell of Lauderdale County were the top two in a field of four candidates. The seat is being vacated by Rep. Eric Robinson, who is retiring.
Smith got about 46 percent of the vote. Campbell had 29 percent.
The winner of the runoff election will go on to face Democrat Billy Lee of Clarke County, who was unopposed in the primary, and independent candidate, Cecil "Matt" Hemphill of Meridian in the November general election.
