Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree says he will run for governor in 2011. DuPree, a Democrat, told the Hattiesburg American that he has talked with city council members, his family and friends about running.

DuPree says he is now in the process of putting together a team to work out campaign strategies and fundraising opportunities in time for the qualifying deadline next year.

Gov. Haley Barbour, a Republican in his second term, cannot run for another term.

Among the possible gubernatorial candidates are Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, a Republican, and Democrat Bill Luckett, a Clarksdale lawyer.

Good point goodbye and Dave I personally of the mindset of to form my opinion of a person by their moral character, words, and actions and not by the color of their skin, I myself tend to have the notion that the more people in this country that heed the above statement the better off our wonderful republic will be. May GOD bless our country and EVERYONE in it no matter what race, creed, sex, age, or whatever comes to your mind.

First off "hello". You aren't looking at the facts. The tea party is nothing like the KKK. It is a movement of people trying to make Americans and OUR Government WAKEUP! It doesn't matter if the President is Black or whatever he claims to be. Bottom line, our Government is out of control, but all the lazy, ignorant, people wanting everything give to them, are too busy with their hand out to see that down the road we will no longer have rights as free American Citizens. Socialism is fast approaching.

Hasn't Hattisburg really gone down hill in the last 5 years or so. Without USM they would hardly exist and oak grove would have taken over. I don't think I want him running the state government. Race has nothing to do with it, by the way, so drop it please. As i say to everyone like these kind of people, If you don't like it MOVE away! the rest of us will be happier

'hello': First of all, you're an idiot. Gas has never been $10.00 a gallon. The Tea Party groups formed through independent, grassroots efforts last year. These groups are people who are tired of runaway government spending, no accountability from office holders, and the rights guaranteed by our U.S. Constitution being whittled away by elected leaders who have turned their backs on the duty they swore an oath to uphold. Don't you dare compare the Tea Party groups to the Klan! Tea Party groups meet openly and peacefully. They don't hide in the shadows. They don't burn things. They are speaking up for their RIGHTS. Whether President Obama is in office or not, these groups have their right of free speech and peaceful assembly. Do you think he is immune from dissent? Why did you not object to the groups who protested when President Bush was in office? Check this website http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/76986/. There are people of color who are sick of Washington.
