State Auditor Phil Bryant, who is running for the lieutenant governor's office,
spoke to the East Mississippi Medical Association in Meridian Tuesday night.
Bryant said health insurance is always an issue and he wants to create strategies to make it affordable.
But the Republican said he thinks east Mississippi is on the right track.
"They're on the front line of health care. These doctors are really concerned to make sure we don't turn back tort reform and I'm here as a candidate for lieutenant governor to tell them we are not going to let that happen," Bryant said.
Bryant said he has been endorsed by the East Mississippi Medical Association.
Jame Franks is the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor. Both candidates will be on the ballot Nov. 6.
