Montgomery, Alabama Alabama Democrats have delayed the vote for a new party chairman.
Former Secretary of State Nancy Worley said Sunday she will continue as interim party chairman following the postponement by the state executive committee, which met Saturday in Montgomery.
Birmingham attorney Ed Gentle had sought the position, but Worley says he wasn't able to take over as chairman because of his work as a special master in a couple of cases involving politics.
Worley says no one else had campaigned as actively for the chairmanship, so party leaders decided to delay a vote to allow for additional time.
Worley says that vote likely won't come before the fall, when the party executive committee is expected to meet for the next time.
Former Democratic chairman Mark Kennedy resigned in April.
