The secretary of state's office will open bids Thursday for the purchase of 159 parcels of tax forfeited properties in Meridian and Lauderdale County.
With a combined estimated value of about $586,000, the Meridian/Lauderdale County properties have been advertised for public bid since Feb. 28.
Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says that his office works with local governments to determine which properties may be marketed for private ownership and which could be transferred to local governments for public use.
Successful bidders will be notified by the secretary of state's office.
Parcels are sold on an "as is" basis. All sales are final and no refunds will be made.
No more than 160 acres may be purchased by one person within one year.
