Bland Says Not Enough Votes for Goldacker

Meridian, Miss. Meridian's mayor spoke out Wednesday about his intentions for the city's chief administrative officer position.

Curt Goldacker has been serving in that capacity as a temporary employee since July.

Mayor Percy Bland says Goldacker is still his first choice for the job. However, he says that he's still not ready to present his name to the city council for confirmation.

"The city council has made it clear to me at this point that we don't have the votes for confirmation," said Bland. "And so we're working through that right now and that's one reason why it has not been brought up."

Bland says the CAO confirmation vote is not on the agenda for the council's next meeting Nov. 5.

Although the mayor says that he wants a vote soon, at this time he's not sure when that will happen.
