Meridian, Miss. The Lauderdale County Council of Governments met Monday for the first time with Meridian's new mayor.
Now that municipal elected officials have been sworn in, they have begun work for the upcoming fiscal year.
Mayor Percy Bland said the city held its first departmental meetings Monday morning with an eye on the city's budget. He says gatherings like COG help strengthen relationships throughout the county.
"It gives all of us a chance to communicate," said Bland. "You have the city, county, the town of Marion, EMBDC. All of us are in this together, and at the end of the day, we need to be able to communicate and work together and discuss our issues as much as we can."
Bland also said he hopes to have his nomination for chief administrative officer, Curt Goldacker, back on the agenda for the next city council meeting
